While dismantling this Bulova cal. 2423.11 to try to determine why it stops frequently the small piece on the right fell out while I was distracted. I can't figure where it goes at this stage of dismantling.
The battery is new and strong and the train is free so the problem must be a contact somewhere. When it stops, pulling stem out to setting position and pushing back in starts it running again.
Can anyone familiar with this movement help with where the little piece goes and what is it's function.
Also, what is the pusher (not visible in picture) at about the 4 o'clock position for?
Thanks
Sorry for picture quality but too lazy to dig out the tripod.

The piece to the far right is called the Second Pinion Friction Spring (P/N 60.131). It lays on top of the train bridge - the train bridge has three holes in it - by the hole opposite the battery is a raised hole. That raised hole goes in the hole in the middle of the spring and the hole in the spring furthest from the curve matches the hole by the raised hole. It provides tension on the second pinion so that the SS hand pulses smoothly. The button at 4 o'clock is for the Accuset mechanism for setting the SS hand. WHen the SS hand reaches the 12 marker, pull out the crown to stop the watch. Press and release the Accuset button. That synchronizes the circuit with the position of the SS hand. Later, if the watch is not accurate to the exact second, the Accuset button can be pushed and released at the exact second the standard timepiece reaches the 60th second, and the watch will gain or loose the appropriate amount of time so that is synchronized with the standard.

Thanks very much Samantha. While waiting for a reply I figured out where it went but had it turned the wrong way.
Now to keep it in place while I reassemble after a little cleaning :)
I wonder if there is anything you don't know about Bulovas !!
Many thanks again.

Once you assemble the train, have the bridge on, and the spring laying in place, mount the stepper motor and the circuit, then it won't come off. :)
