Help with 992b

Well I messed something up. I pulled my 992b apart to clean it. I put it back together and noticed the minute and hour posts are rubbing at one point causing the watch to lose time. I pulled the cannon off and then piece by piece I tested it. All was fine and smooth until the hands were reinstalled.

How do I determine which part is bent causing the rub? Any suggestions? It's either the cannon pinion or the other wheel

Thank you in advance

That would be called the center wheel. .

If the pinion (post) on it is not bent, it should OK.

Maybe the hour hand or Minute hand has a burr in the center hole rubbing the other hand?

Hey Jim. Thanks for your response. I just visited the thread because I realized it was the center wheen and I was going to edit my past post :)

It's either the center wheel or cannon pinion. It's very minor as the watch only loses 1 or 2 sec an hour.

Is there any way to repair this without new parts?

It's very minor as the watch only loses 1 or 2 sec an hour.

This is not much of an error. Are you sure the cause of time loss is linked to the "posts"?

If you search for a damaged "post" you could mount the hands and move the hands by setting the watch. By closely observing the tip of the hands as they move across the dial, you should be able to tell if a tip is more and less distant from the dial in various positions. Such variation is probably caused by a damaged "post".

If the center arbor is bent both hands should be shifting as discussed above.

Thank you. Great information. The wztch wss keeping railroad time before. Yes I believe the center wheel is a tad bent due to the odds but maybe I slightly disfigured the pinion but highly unlikely. I'll look for a variation of movement tonight when I get home.
FROM what I understand a lathe can be used to straighten the center wheel arbor if that is at fault, but I don't have one. I may just order a new/used one from fleabay
Thank you.

If you want to ask for a part, there is a 'parts wanted' sticky at the top of this forum. There's a similar 'tools wanted' sticky in the tools forum. This is, above all however, an educational forum. So, no buying and selling allowed.

I must have put the hands on last night with to much pressure. I tested wheel after wheel and all was smooth until the hands went on last night.

I got home an hour ago and put her back together piece by piece. TO my amazement All is smooth evan after the hand install which I was gentler with. ALL is fine!!! I'm very lucky.

Thanks for all of your help
