Over the next couple of weeks we will be performing software updates on the forum. These will be completed in small steps as we upgrade individual software addons. You might occasionally see a maintenance message that will last a few minutes at most.

If we anticipate an update will take more than a few minutes, we'll put up a notice with estimated time.

HELP- Welch Drop Calendar #2

My welch calendar clock #2 (5 dial) stops because the date hand and year(month) hands are in a conflict and lock up. The clocks keeps time and all the the dial hands move but the clock stops when it gets near the end of the month or won’t turn over to the next month. Seems like it needs a reset of the calendar movement in relation to the time movement. Since both movements were taken out for service, it is likely that they didn’t get put back in their proper alignment. Please contact me if you know the way to get the two movements working together. Can’t help with your problem, but it looks like a really nice Gale calendar!

One thing that stands out is the shape and position of the lower spring in this picture. Should it have a similar shape as the upper spring? And rest on the wheel like the other one?

Unless I'm missing something, you are saying that the hands from the year and date dials are hitting each other. Surely the fix is to bend one of the hands gently until it doesn't touch the other one?

Thanks for the reply. The hands are not hitting each other or crossed over. The problem lies somewhere in the alignment between the calendar movement gears and the time movement. The calendar movement was not taken apart only rotated in the servicing.

Thanks for the reply. I don’t know about the spring positioning as the calendar movement was not taken apart. Your red arrow is the long Date hand and the blue arrow is the month/sunrise sunset hand. They seem to be locking up with one another at a certain point of the month. I believe the the gears are in conflict with the time movement hands someway. When i turn the minute hand around to approx 11:00 PM they will unlock the two which are in a bind or solid stop. Let me know if you can think of something. Ken
