• Upcoming updates
Over the next couple of weeks we will be performing software updates on the forum. These will be completed in small steps as we upgrade individual software addons. You might occasionally see a maintenance message that will last a few minutes at most.

If we anticipate an update will take more than a few minutes, we'll put up a notice with estimated time.

    Thank you!

We've inherited a clock from our uncle and would like to get it working again. I have these pictures. I'd like to know what it is and if it'll be an expensive restoration. (, Condition unknown inside). Please let us know as much as you can.

The movement is by the German company Kienzle. Additional information about restoration will probably require additional pictures of case and movement, as well as specific information about the issues that need to be addressed. In the meantime, I will move this thread to the Clock Repair forum.

Welcome to the forum.

Your clock was made by Kienzle, a German clock maker.

The trademark on your clock was registered circa 1890. The next Kienzle trademark was registered in 1910, so presumably your clock was made between those dates. Since trademark usage can overlap, it could be a bit older than 1910.

Regards.

What have you done to try to get it working so far? Google 'putting a clock in beat' and follow the instructions. IMO clocks seem to be more sensitive to being level as they get older. Go slow and you might be surprised to find it runs for a short time.... if so, it needs a cleaning and maybe that will be enough to get it running consistently..... you would be surprised how far a little TLC goes with an antique clock...

It would be nice to see the whole clock, and give us an idea of what part of the world you live in. That will help with giving you an idea of what it might cost for a professional service. But as a guess-timate without seeing what needs to be done, I'd say you'll be looking at $250 to $300. Stretch that out over the 20 years or so the clock will run afterwards, and it's pretty cheap ;)
