Hi all,

I am unable to find any information on this cuckoo. Any help with identification would help. Topper measures 15 inches across.

Thanks in Advance

Is there anything I could add to help identify it? I have scoured the interweb and cant even find one that looks similar.

I don't know anything about these clocks, but the lyre shape in the back plate is likely a clue to the maker.

I believe that I have read that the lyre shaped plates were used by Herr & Co in Triberg. But I am not certain.

It has "made in Austria" on the dial.
That's quite interesting. I can't think of any Austrian cuckoo case makers at the moment, and I don't recall ever seeing a cuckoo case marked like that. But I believe the movement is German, whoever the case maker was.

Hope others will know more.

Could the movement be a replacement?

There appears to be some extra holes on the inside of the case.

Also, please provide post-cleaning pictures of the dial that states Made in Austria.

Regards.

You can just see it, even in the uncleaned photo, if you click on it and it enlarges. You can see the word AUSTRIA between the hands on the innermost circle of the dial, just above the hand shaft.

As for the extra holes, they seem to be exactly in a radius line with the legs of the present movement. I wonder if the first holes got worn and enlarged and so, instead of plugging the worn holes, the owner just moved the legs outwards to unused wood.

JTD,

Your eyes and / or computer are better than mine.:D

I also thought of moving the legs as an explanation, but could not tell for sure if the legs were flexible or fixed in place.

Regards.

Yes, I agree it's hard to see, but it is there, just pressed into the wood in capital letters, not painted.

I'm pretty sure the legs on these movements can be moved.

As to the movement. Could have been a replacement. But the extra holes seem to align with the movement if I shift the mount tabs. There was previous damage to the case and crown from a fall, maybe that knocked the movement out of its mount. Its clean because I had just disassembled and cleaned it. There are no markings other than the number on the bottom of the movement. Adding a picture of the face. Also the weights are massive. Like the size for an eight day cuckoo. And it now keeps perfect time (for a cuckoo)
