Hi all! My partner has a Kern clock she inherited from her grandmother that has a broken spring. I would like to get it back to working as a surprise to her but I'm having trouble identifying the correct spring/plates. I only have a couple of photos of the clock.

Can anyone identify which one it might be from just these?
Thanks!

Welcome to the message board! I would call this plate #1404A...I have basically the same thing, although I can't see your whole clock. The logo is not in the same place as the repair guide, but I suspect that's it. The guide says that the suspension spring is 0.0036" thick. I see the top block and fork...do you have the lower block? Mine is attached.

Thanks! I don't think she has the lower block, so I might get the full assembly, if I can find out which one it is. I did find this clock on ebay that looks a lot like the photos and has the logo on the same side and if I am not mistaken has the same design on the face.

The pictures you show from ebay are for a different version of the clock. The back plate from what I can tell would be #1406 series in the guide and takes a much thinner spring...it's actually listed as a midget clock. I suspect your back plate is about 2-1/2 inches wide. The ebay plate is likely less than 2 inches.

If we're still talking 1404A, then the complete suspension unit called out by the guide is 11B. It's possible to just buy the spring needed and a lower block and put the suspension unit together yourself. Takes some small screwdrivers and care, but it's really not that difficult. That said, on my first anniversary clock, I bought the complete unit but I found out quickly that was going to be too expensive. If you're just after this one clock, that might be the way to go however.

You are absolutely right! I asked her daughter to send me a picture of the front of the clock and it's exactly the one you have. With the information you provided I'll be able to get the spring and the lower block as you suggested. Do you by any chance know the size of the wind up key? Thank you so much for your help!

The sizes offered for keys has always confused me. But I measured 4.5 mm across the flats on the winding arbor. I'm sure someone on the other end can match something up that will work with that dimension. Maybe English Size 11?
