Here is a clock that I don't think was made in Karachi. I have see another clock with this name ( P. Allana & Sons Karachi) painted on the dial. It was an Ansonia Regulator D. Then the research revealed that the Allana Brothers, of the Korangi Industrial Area of Karachi, Pakistan, sell canvas and other textile products. The dial was painted over. I think this is the same case.

On this clock the word "Olympic" seems to be bleeding through. My question here is to try and identify the clock maker and the estimated time period. Sorry these are the only images I have available.

All replies and suggestions are appreciated. So what do you think?

Although the clock looks like a German box clock made between the wars, without seeing the movement, I suspect the clock could be Japanese, but this is just a guess.

Regards.

This clock is in Mumbai, India. No Local NAWCC Chapter. Here are images of the movement sent to me by the owner. Looks like it could use a cleaning. He thinks a grandfather got it around 1900 (?).

The trademark on the movement is Meiji. A Japanese clock maker.

Mun beat me to it ;-)

Searching the web to find a date for this clock company.

I now suspect that this Japanese clock was purchased somewhere (?) and then had a company name and location added to the dial face.

Still wondering about the word "Olympic" ?

If you search this site for Meiji Clock Co (use the little search icon at the top of the page) you will find a lot of information on the company.

Meiji was founded in 1895 and continued until relatively recently. They were associated with Ansonia.

I think the name was that of the retailer. Many merchant companies in India and what is now Pakistan sold a wide variety of goods.

Still wondering about the word "Olympic" ?

Many companies used the word Olympic as a trade name. I don't think it is of any particular significance.

Others may know more.
