I just bought a Seth ThomasClock-Brookfield Banjo Clock (Model E 530-A208 Movement, from 1973). I really like this clock (my second one… but giving this one to my GF). Anyway, the rod is off and every time I reconnect the rod to the suspension spring it fallsoff again. How can I keep it on? Or where can I replace the rod, OR is it thesuspension spring?

The few seconds it does run... it scrapes the back of the base (as seen in one of the photos).

I'm attaching some pics.

The rod is made flat at the end where it passes through the hole in the suspension spring, then folded over flat against the end of the spring. The piece that is folded over may have broken off. All that's left is a hook remnant.

You may consider replacing the rod and spring assembly or you could hook it back as you've been doing but wrap some fine sewing thread tightly around the spring below the hole and around the rod. Then apply some glue to the thread bandage to keep the rod hooked.
Don't try soldering the rod to the spring....heat will anneal the spring and it won't be a spring any more.

Instead of trying to re-attach the rod to the feather, I'd recommend replacing the assembly. Not expensive. Go to Timesavers.com, part #18913. A pack of a dozen for $5.50 (they don't come in singles —you'll have spares to play with). 18" long should do you. Cut it to length, bend a hook in the end. If you need longer than 18", look at 17758.
