HELP. Bezel Repair

A friend asked me to repair his clock. I am a hobbiest and can do most mechanical repairs. This clock’s bezel is apart. It is a typical glass between 2 pieces of brass hinged to the face pan. Face is paper. Solder joints are broken. Any hints on how to redo the solder joints without breaking the glass or burning the face would be appreciated. Does anyone do this job commercially?

The easy answer is you can't. The paper MUST be removed before you apply heat, and the glass should be. How is it assembled? Yep, we need a pic or two.

The paper is probably glued in. A hair dryer might loosen it enough to remove it. I can't see what is holding the glass in, but it might be a wire ring soft soldered into place. Get the dial out and the glass might be OK if you don't get it any hotter than needed and let it cool slowly.

As far as I can tell, the glass is sandwiched between the two rings.

I could very well be wrong, but these parts don't appear to go together. The dial pan looks like it is from a kitchen clock. The glass appears to be held in by globs of solder. I can't see a wire or brass tabs. And the deep trim ring is just a puzzle to me. Perhaps if the clock were pictured, it might help sort out the parts.

Take it to someone who knows how to solder.

The work has to be done very quickly, to save the paper dial from being toasted.
An amateur will likely take to long.

Looks like the dial needs a lot of clean-up from other amateur solders!
