    Hello everybody.
This is my first post so I thought I would introduce myself. I live in the UK and I collect American pocket watches. Specifically Walthams, even more specifically 16s Walthams in English Dennison cases! I also have one or two others but Walthams are my first love. I do do some work on them which I find very satisfying and aim to try and return them to as pristine condition as I can get. So that's it, but I hope to offer some contribution to this Forum.
    Thank You

As you know, Waltham has a long history of exporting watches to England and these included some models that were not seen in the U.S. We look forward to your participation.

Hello from LA. That's Lower Alabama, y'all.

Can you shed any light on a 16 size Waltham Model 626 that has been discussed on this forum several times before? All research shows that only 500 of these models were made but no conclusion has been made as to whether this is a Private Label or made for export to the Motherland.

Here's a link to one of the threads about the 626:

    https://mb.nawcc.org/showthread.php?127654-Waltham-model-1908-grade-626&highlight=waltham+model+626

I tend to lean towards export for the British market since the plate is marked "U.S.A." What are your thoughts on the subject............and thanks.

Hello all and many thanks for the huge welcome. I'll certainly get round to posting some pictures soon. And Marty W, I hadn't heard about the thread on the 626 but will look into it. I also was of the belief that "U.S.A." was for export. TTFN

Yes I saw that, Tom. Prestons Ltd are still going about thirty miles away from me! Note it also has "U. S. A." on the dial. What I'm currently researching by coincidence does have some bearing on this other thread. Am negotiating a purchase at the moment, may have more information in about a week.

That would be great especially if you can prove anything mentioned about these being export movements. I am thinking that the British may have needed a quick supply of watches as they were just about engaged in the war, and that they found that Waltham could supply their needs faster than they could.

Well that deal I was talking about fell through and the "research" basically came down to hearsay. The conclusion was that these 626's were ordered from England but that with the outbreak of war the deal was cancelled. The watches were then redialed and sold on the American market. But like I said it's hearsay and I have no proof.

That makes a lot of sense......as much as any other hypothetical would make, so I thank you for your effort to resolve this situation.

    Welcome Roland!
What type watch do you like most? Full plate, 3/4 plate.
I am relatively new at collecting and repairing also, and I am liking the full plate watches with balance over the plate.
I still marvel at the sight of a balance out in full view...
Hope you enjoy your hobby whether it is more acquisition or more repair...!!!
    Dave.

    Hello Dave
Thanks for the welcome. I''ve been dealing with watches for quite some time now but have not joined a Forum until now. My favourite movements are size 16, 3/4 plate, nickelled and with a starwheel regulator. Elegant hands are also a "must". All wrapped up in a plain Dennison case, absolutely beautiful, I can stare at them for hours! Will post some pictures soon.

Roland - I know that many of the Waltham exports were sold through Schierwater & Lloyd and that these often had very nice dials. I don't have one myself, but would love to see any examples you might have. (A separate thread might be nice, for future referencing). My favorite export model in my own collection is a 14-size 1895 model "Riverside" in a Dennison case.
