I picked up this movement from a customer today to replace the cables. The strike side cable broke and the weight knocked out the bottom board of the case. It is in a fine Colonial grandmother clock. The chime weight is much larger than the other weights. It weighs about 25 lbs.
I ordered Timesavers cable # 10433 for all three weights. The original cables measure .057 inches in diameter. Am I OK with the 10433?
I am wondering why they made this and other movements I've seen on Hershede and other clocks, with all three spools and cables the same. Has anyone seen movements with one larger spool and a larger cable on the chime train? After many years of 25 lbs. weight, a small cable is bound to weaken. Right?
Just wondering,
Will
