Good evening Robert,

I've found that "cat gut" cord works well. I've never used it for long periods of time but I would think it would hold up pretty well. As a bonus it's free! Just ask any large music store for old "cat gut" gutiar strings, they just throw them away by the hand fulls.

If you want leather Tandy or a good cobblers shop can get most anything you need.

Most industrial small drives use round urethane belting. You can but it by the foot, cut it to length, and super glue the ends together. Try looking in the phone book under bearing supliers or maybe comericial fasteners. Once you make your belt it will never stretch or wear out.
Good luck,
Jeff

I have used waxed thread, as used in upholstery shops. It is strong and the ends can be braided together to avoid the "thump" of a knot.
