What do I need to do to fix this? I stopped the hand and the clock continues to run.

Likely a loose clutch.
You might be able to tighten it, but the movement will need to be taken apart.
Check the hands carefully too, I’m thinking the hand bushing.

Yeah, it's acting really weird. I've had one other cuckoo do this but I never did get the clutch to hold again. When you pulled on the chain to wind it, it would turn the hands backward. This one is moving backward too but not changing the time. I'm going to have to take the center wheel out and tighten the collet some if possible. I was hoping someone had an easier way. Do you:???::???::???::???::???:
Thanks, Mike. I'll let you know how it turns out, Danny

If it's an older clock, the clutch will be external. Guessing yours is the more usual, internal coil spring on the handshaft, type though.

Also, it could be a cracked plastic drive gear on the chain wheel arbor. This is a fairly common occurrence.

Thanks for all the help. I have abandoned the movement. I took it apart to try and tighten the center gear on the shaft. It was very loose. Upon inspection, I found the center cam was split open also. I tried to find a Frankenstein movement but I didn't have one. It's a regula 420 I guess. That's the only stamping on it. (420) I'm guessing it's a regula. I'm just going to put a new one in it. I hope a Regula 25 will do the job.
Thanks again, Danny

dd,
A photo of the movement may have given you some better answers. Willie X

Nah, it's a plastic world. The plastic in that movement did what it was supposed to do for more than 20 years and I reckon the new one will do the same. Plastic is our friend. Thanks, Danny

Assuming this was a 30 hour clock then? That would make a difference whether you wanted the 25 or the 34.
