So this is 1 pf 2 watches I received today, this one is a mystery to me. It looks like a type 4 992B but the serial number is a Ball number.

So I found this old post about the 999B by Fred Hanson, and I have compared my movement with the Ball and it looks Identical, I have also seen a couple of other Ball 999B reported on the PWDB as being the same as mine, within the same run of watches.

Here is a photo of 1B26902 with the later winding wheels and damaskeen pattern ...

Unlike the 'cleanup runs' where 4c , S, and 2B plates were used, we'll probably never know the true story on these...
that is
IF
these are simply frankenwatches with 992 bridges and cocks on a 1B plate.
As they seem to all be high serial number examples, that could lean one to believe 'another' cleanup run

will be hard to prove though.

there ARE however 999B examples with 992B (straight line milliskeen) damaskeen in these late runs, but the markings are for Ball...

So are there any Hamilton Records on these serial numbers?
Also I guess the Hamilton 992b and 999b are the same movement?

tagline for the above,
Interesting on the case serial number, the very late model 16 cases actually have a "P" prefix and maybe some difference in the wording.
some of the very late ones have a machined 'flat' on the case interior assumed for case screw clearance...

unsure if you can blow these up enough for a comparison...
C521188 is a pretty late example ...note that case marking.

Nice complete watch,
The markings, the best I can tell, look the same but mine starts with an R,?

I also have a 1B prefix 992B...1B27070...I bought it from a guy in Texas who said his father carried it for some time and it even had a worn leather strap on it, certainly not looking like a fraudulent, altered movement. I had the case professionally polished, new glass crystal, etc. and now it looks near mint...I've only heard of 6-8 of these..I think it was factory done...the serial number, as is the case with most later 992Bs, has no ink so is hard to see in a pic, but it sure looks legit to me in person

There have been several documented Hamilton 992Bs created by the factory using up "left over" 1B, 2B and "S" prefix "B" dial plates. Here are the 1B movements I have documented:

1B27010 on ebay, model 17 case
1B27023 in Hamlton Model 16 Case #R602859 from Jskirk
1B27058 from PC. in Model 17 case with "To Wally from Tom A Great Engineer Xmass 1955"
1B27070 from PWDB.com (confirmed by Dbailey :)
1B27079 from PC in Model 17
1B27080 from PC in Model 16 case with "R L Moore From The Boys of J.T.L. 1960"

Most of the info above came from collector Paul Cove who has owned a couple of the above.

Nice watch!
