I'm getting a bunch of hits for a Schleuder Brothers jewelers in Minnesota... Nothing for Washington.

Try one of those old newspapers sites. Great place to start researching a private label.

I also noticed that a Forrest Schleuder sold his business in Decorah, MN, in 1895.

This is in a keystone base metal case, which I am sure is not the original, but I think these cases are very heavy duty and very easy to open and close.

Wow! Good work. I need you on speed dial. (Is speed dial even a thing anymore?)

Those rogue teams of horses sure are a menace!

Mr. Shirk, researching the private label is the best part of buying private labels!

There's a lot of great resources with the internet. Old newspapers, Google books, the jewelers circular, census records and ancestry. Historical societies, and related websites are great too.

I get lost for hours banging keys and trying to find information. Fascinating stuff!

Actually, I mis-typed. Whatcom is correct, despite auto-correct.

This is one of the great reasons why people should become members of the NAWCC because(if you collect Hamiltons)
you can see the original Hamilton records of exactly when it was sold and finished(and who it was sold to).
I always check the Hamilton records myself(databases are not always right;)).
I can see that Schleuder Bros. bought two PL watches with their name on it on 5/27/01

Rob , thankyou for that. I have tried but the online sign up will not accept my email, as withthe case of a few other sites I have tried. I have a gmail.com and it seems alot of sites do not accept that.
So are you saying there is only 2 watches with this label?

Would this have been in a Hamilton case originally, or a case the Jewelers put it in?

The Jewelers' Circular and Horological Review [late 1800's]

Schleuder Bros storefront in Bellingham with "Closing Out Sale" banner | MABEL

Apparently the town was 'New Whatcom', later 'Bellingham'

"View of Bellingham Taken By C.C. Siegel Nov.12-1910."
That building in the picture was erected by them in 1900.

Schleuder Bros (Otto and Julius), jewelers II3 W Holly.

This would have been sold as a movement, and as you say a jeweler
would have put it in a case. If you look closely you can see an extra set of screw mark's
which indicate that another movement was is this case too. I think its
now in a fine looking case.

Rob, I agree, I do like these keystone base metal cases, pretty heavy duty.

So I just took a minute to read about Whatcom this is an interesting thing I found on wiki
"A Nooksack chief is the namesake of Whatcom County, taken from the word in the Nooksack language for "noisy water."[6]
