• Upcoming updates
Over the next couple of weeks we will be performing software updates on the forum. These will be completed in small steps as we upgrade individual software addons. You might occasionally see a maintenance message that will last a few minutes at most.

If we anticipate an update will take more than a few minutes, we'll put up a notice with estimated time.

    Thank you!

Hope I'm posting this correctly as it's my first time. If not I'm sure someone can put me right :)

Recently bought what seems to be an HAC pendulum clock. Unfortunately it looks as though it's a front pendulum and it's missing the follower. Does anyone know where I might buy one? I'm based in the UK.
Thanks for any help you can give me.

Welcome ! Indeed it does look like an HAC movement with those crossed arrows.

Based on your photo, it seems you are missing the suspension spring, pendulum leader, and pendulum bob. The suspension spring gets pinned into the slotted post on the movement. The pendulum leader hangs from the lower end of the spring AND passes through the eye in the crutch wire. (In this way the pendulum receives energy and is able in turn to moderate the escapement.) Then the bob hangs on the lower end of the leader. You may be able to spot the 3 parts in this photo of another movement....

Since the pendulum bob's weight is the least important part, you could construct everything (except the spring) from stiff wire and a fishing weight as a quick test. With this you could determine the appropriate pendulum length for time keeping. In turn, that information will help you acquire the correct parts.

Hope this helps.

If you try a search for "suspension rod" on Ebay or Etsy (UK) you'll find inexpensive parts. Just hang the spring on top in the slot here HAC.jpg

You'll probably have to bend an arc in the rod to clear the center post.

Then bend a "J" shape on the bottom to hang the pendulum bob.

Thanks for the assist. Unfortunately it's a bit like a Hermle front pendulum where the suspension spring and follower are directly in line with both the centre boss and the key stem for the mainspring winder. It's going to need some sort of weird bend in it.

Thanks for your advice. I was afraid I'd have to do this. Hey ho - I'll have to get bending.

Steff, since you are in England, you might wish to consider going to CousinsUK.com; look under suspensions; then those listed as American Ansonia Suspension Spring and select one for your starting point. I would recommend you consider getting the one that is 500 mm where you can make the bend like Escape Wheel shows and run the length test that Chime Time mentioned. This would then be where you would make the J hook which should be at the appropriate length. Just my thoughts.

Steff, any possibility of posting a picture of the clock case? The movement is something I've never seen by HAC - it's so small. We're all here to learn. :)

Thanks Royce. I already deal with Cousins so I'll check them out.

Welcome to the forum.

I believe the following HAC movement is the same as your movement.

This is the case of the above movement.

The model of this clock case is No. 7164. Hope this helps in showing you some of the components you may be missing.

Regards.

Herewith attached. You can just make out the "Made in Wurttenberg" paper label inside the case, although it's pretty discoloured.

My case is slightly different, but the movement looks identical. Thank you so much, that's really helpful as I now have a reference for the follower and spring.
