• Upcoming updates
Over the next couple of weeks we will be performing software updates on the forum. These will be completed in small steps as we upgrade individual software addons. You might occasionally see a maintenance message that will last a few minutes at most.

If we anticipate an update will take more than a few minutes, we'll put up a notice with estimated time.

    Thank you!

I am currently at my grandfathers house. I noticed a wonderful specimen of Gustav Becker on one of his tables. 78930025.gif

Hand Inscribed on the inside back of the door was '6800T'. It also had an 'M'. It had (excuse the horrendous picture quality, as I am on my phone) an unincircled anchor with 'GB' 65430e07.gif

It's pendulum number is 'P14'.

It also has a large 'G B' super imposed where the little strings connect to this large metal thing... I have no knowledge of clocks... hehe, but this seemed the best place to gather information.

I simply would like (if possible) to know a price range, and date made.

I have many more beautiful pieces of clock work I may post within this week.

Timepiece: Thanks for posting and welcome to the Message Board. Your grandfather's clock is of a style known as tambour and was popular in the 1920's and 30's. I will let others more knowledgeable attempt to narrow down the date, but I will say that our rules do not allow for a discussion of values. You might get an idea of what similar clocks have sold for or are listed for at a site like antiqueclocks priceguide.com, which is a subscription service, or you can track some on ebay to see what they sell for (just to give two examples). Tran Duy Ly has published a book on Becker clocks through Arlington Press. The book, which is relatively pricey, comes with a price guide, and you may not wish to buy it for just the one clock.

Timepiece, there will be a serial number below the GB anchor logo, near the bottom edge of the movement back plate. If you can provide that number I can give you the actual year it was made. The logo itself indicates the clock was made in the 1920's but the serial number is needed to determine the year. This model is illustrated in a couple of GB catalogs, I'll look that up and provide the info after you have let us know the serial number.

Timepiece, thanks for the serial number information. This number shows your grandfather's clock was made about 2nd quarter 1926, just after Gebrüder Junghans took over GB operations and started a new serial number series. This is one of the first clocks made using that system.

I thought I had seen this model in a couple of catalogs I have access, but the exact clock model wasn't there. It is quite similar to others seen from the same period, I guess that's why I thought I had seen it in a catalog. Beautiful clock!

If you have any more Beckers I can help with the dating and in most instances with a model number.

Not to double post, but, as this is my first endeavor into horology, the workings of this clock very much interested me. I thought I might as well take a video, as today was my last day at my grandfathers. I thought I might as well post it here, as I greatly admire the sound. (excuse the sloppy recording, this was taken with my phone) So here goes:
