I bought this Gustav Becker a couple of weeks ago was checking it over to see if it was worth fixing. The clock runs but the gear on the spring barrel for the strike side is broken. It looks like it's press fitted on the barrel, the spring is good you can feel the tension. Is this spring barrel available anywhere or do I need to find a used one. I looked on Timesavers and Merritts but I don't see spring barrels like this one. It's a Silesia movement.

That's what someone else told me to get it brazed and have them reform the tooth that's broken off.

Sylv,
What's that stuff that's piled up on the mounting plate? Looks like it spent some time in a chicken house. :)

This one came right out of a barn, the only reason I bought it was because he had another clock I wanted and I was trying to butter him up.

As Harold said this is not a hard repair job, if dovetailing a new tooth in is beyond your skill, someone can do it for you.

Very interesting challenge I would think. Replacing teeth is not too bad, but that being broken and a press fit would be my concern. Perhaps getting it joined back together in a secure manner and then looking at some other way to attach it to the barrel to reduce the hoop stress.

This appears to be a ring gear that was pressed onto the stamped (?) barrel. Looks like it just snapped from from stress, maybe a broken spring. If the ring could be precisely
brazed back together, it could then be soft soldered back in place. You might have some machine work, if the barrel has expanded.
