Recently, I had an opportunity to inspect a Gouvernon, Geneve, open-face watch of 20 1/2 "' size, 3/4 plate, with a cylinder escapement and gold balance. It was housed in an original, unmarked, silver case bearing the same number as the movement. Both the watch dial, and the movement itself, were signed: Gouvernon, Geneve. This maker was not recorded by Kathleen Pritchard, but an internet search revealed a few watches signed by this name, which appeared at various auctions. However, I did not succeed in finding any information on the maker himself, period of his operation, etc. Any information on the subject would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in anticipation.

The new list of watchmakers by Loomes (2006) shows a record of 'Gouvernon, Widmer & Co., Geneva and London, 1869'. Widmer alone (James) is recorded in the same source for London in 1881. However, there is no information over there on only Gouvernon in Geneva.
