• Upcoming updates
Over the next couple of weeks we will be performing software updates on the forum. These will be completed in small steps as we upgrade individual software addons. You might occasionally see a maintenance message that will last a few minutes at most.

If we anticipate an update will take more than a few minutes, we'll put up a notice with estimated time.

    Thank you!

I am currently working on a Gilbert 8 day movement with Hour Gong and Half-hour Bell strike. It is marked 1907.

It was brought to me(in pieces) by a watchmaker friend. My problem is that I have not been able to "fit" all of the wires into the movement. The gong strikeing lever "fits". If I place the Lifting/Warning lever where I think it should go(see photo) and do the same with the count wire...it all looks and operates properly. The problem is with the half-hour strikeing lever. No matter how I try to turn and manipulate the wire...it doesn't look right.

Any suggestions/photos/drawing would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
greg

The half hour hammer should be placed in the hole at the bottom of the plate just below and to the right of the strike hammer. The half hour hammer should face upward not down as you have it.It is activated by a cam on the minute hand shaft as a passing stike and not spring operated.
