• Upcoming updates
Over the next couple of weeks we will be performing software updates on the forum. These will be completed in small steps as we upgrade individual software addons. You might occasionally see a maintenance message that will last a few minutes at most.

If we anticipate an update will take more than a few minutes, we'll put up a notice with estimated time.

    Thank you!

This is a German style, weight-driven wall clock that is a full 39" tall that was acquired locally. The widow of the last buyer didn't have any information as they had purchased it in a similar situation. The movement is unmarked, except for the numbers "190205". The movement is slightly trapezoidal. The dead beat verge is fitted with position adjustable pallets. The crutch is fitted with a threaded Beat adjustment.

The black dark brown painted case seems to be reminiscent of Mauthe clocks from the mid-1920's. It has a full-length door with beveled glass in the lower tablet. The sides are wooden with small movement inspection ports on either side. The gong mounts are unmarked.

Help identifying this clock will be highly appreciated.

I believe your clock is at least 10 years prior to the mid-1920s. I would estimate the vintage to be 1900 to WWI.

We have folks who can identify unmarked movements and they should be along to contribute.

Regards.

This is a Solch & Jackel clock from Freiburg. Same design as Urania Freiburg. I would date it to 1930, seeing the number of the mechanism. I will not write anything more, unfortunately, because I am outside the house and I have no archives available.
There are very few weight clocks of this company from this period.

Kienzle seems to be very similar, but they are completely different mechanisms.
I have never seen a Kienzle on scales with a number greater than 8x xxx.
Shown has 190 xxx.

For a change, I will show marked Urania from the end of production. After the numbers 50,000, the signature disappears, but this characteristic element appears. In our case, it is called a transport (I don't know how the translator can handle it) on which the pendulum hangs.

The Kienzle was quite different.

Urania Freiburg was taken over by Solch & Jackel, most likely in 1913. It was a carpentry workshop. The new owner kept production in line with Urania Freiburg's designs. He even continued the numbering by punching in the numbers exactly like Urania. Over the years, clocks with the REFORM marking and weight clocks have been produced. There are relatively few of these. I had a Solch & Jackel clock with a 133 212 movement on my wall.

In the archive I have a clock with the number 19x228 and a plate on the chest from 1922. So I think the clock shown by ChimeTime is from that period.

And I still think it's Solch & Jackel :)
