Since my Great-Grandfather left Germany (Hilden) around 1868 and didn't pass along the language to his progeny, my knowledge of German, despite my last name, is nil (took Latin as a school boy). So anyway, here's the title page from a book (1888) that I was hoping someone might give a rough translation for. It has a number of plates of neat old European watches, so I assume that it's a catalog of some private or museum collection.

The book had an interesting previous owner.

are there some pictures of movements inside? Would be curious to look inside this nice book. Maybe some rare movements...?
    Thanks in advance for sharing.
    Best regards

Greg, why do you suppose there is a second cover over the automaton?

    Tom,

Which watch are you refering to? (I haven't a clue about watches like these).

    Tom,

Underneath the "secret cuvette" is an amorous scene. (Reminds me of an old joke about......)
