Fusee Set Up Question

Is there a general rule of thumb for how much "wind" to set the mainsprings before starting to wind the fusee barrel? Such as 50 or 60%? Hope this makes sense, thanks.

When fully winding the first time, make sure that the chain/wire/gut is long enough. Sometimes chains have been "repaired" by simply shortening the chain, i.e. fixing the hook to the end of the longer chain fragment.
