Re: Another poll about oil

What I've picked up, over years of watching these discussions, is a general rule something like: "Oil every 5-7 years, clean & service every 10-12 years."

I think the odds of very many clock owners actually doing that are skimpy, no matter what I think or recommend.

So none of the above.

:(

I do mine every 2 years +,sort of a combination of works review, case cleaning, glass wipe down and check the general condition...........but then I do not have a warehouse full of clocks either.

Re: Another poll about oil

By now the polls about oil and oiling have probably been answered by a significant number of participants for us to draw some conclusions. What is interesting about these polls is not what it tells us about what is best to do, but rather what we actually do.

Apparently the majority of us wait 5 years or more (even interminably) before oiling. When it comes to how we choose a preferred oil, the majority is nearly evenly split between those who decide from first hand observation and those who depend on the recommendation of others.
