A lady that sold me a clock got a few from her fathers estate, and wanted me to try to find out about this one. It has chime rods on both sides of the movement and the movement is mounted to a board that slides out of the case. I only have a couple photos but I’ve not been able to find the maker from the trademark on the back. Anyone have any idea I can share with her?

If you look closely, just at the bottom of the F de S stamp (which just says that F de S patented or registered something) you will see what looks like a setting sun and I think I can see three letters in an arc across it.

This is very similar to the mark used by F. Romanet, of Morbier (France) and this clock would fit their style.

Can you see the sun logo more clearly and see the letters arced across?

Just my thoughts, other may know more/better.

After looking closer, it looks like the word has the last letters as rose or close to it.

verry nice and stylish equivalent to a contemporary German box clock , made around the 30ies , but much better than these. Exellent quality movement , nice chime and a case made of solid wallnut , if the price was ok I´d go for it!

I agree with all you say, and would add that these Romanet clocks often (usually) have a very warm-sounding gong.

Sorry Burkhard, I overlooked the fact that you had already mentioned the nice chime.

thanks for the help. ill let the lady know what you have shared. I bought a ST #2 from her, and she has a few weight clocks shes selling, but they were her dads that she got when he died, and he wanted nothing to do with her when he was alive, so the clocks are just bad memories to her. I tried to get her to keep a couple, but it looks like that wont happen.

Just an update. I decided to take the time to look at it and see why it wasn’t chiming. Turns out the last person to take the dial off put it back together and used taper pins that one of which was too long and stopped it from chiming. What I found interesting was how the chime levers are all slowly dropped by friction. No clunking at all, and one that holds the hour chime even had a counter weight . Great sounding chimes.
