• Upcoming updates
    Over the next couple of weeks we will be performing software updates on the forum. These will be completed in small steps as we upgrade individual software addons. You might occasionally see a maintenance message that will last a few minutes at most.

    If we anticipate an update will take more than a few minutes, we'll put up a notice with estimated time.

    Thank you!

This is a project I will be starting soon, I believe it to be from late 19th century with as you can see a mercury filled pendulum, will strip and service the movement and would dearly love to address the rather shabby looking case, anyone with guidance or information on the original look would be greatly appreciated, I was hoping the case was brass but it appears to be some form of alloy which I guess initially had a brass plating which has now rubbed off??

A very, very Kool Klock. I wouldn't mess with trying to polish the case. Might end up doing more harm than good. The castings are probably bronze-plated spelter. No guess on the body of the clock.

You've got your work cut out for you. Every part of that clock would have been polished and lacquered. The adornments are not spelter,they're cast brass and can go into the ultrasonic but only in short bursts,2min. max and rinsed well between cycles. The steel parts(except arbors) will need to be derusted,cleaned and reblued. Parts that have a turned,machined finish get 4/0 steel wooled,everything else gets a buffing wheel and red rouge. Some of the cast pieces will have only polished highlights.

Here is a French Champleve' that I just restored to give you an idea of what it should look like and the amount of work you're in for;
