• Upcoming updates
Over the next couple of weeks we will be performing software updates on the forum. These will be completed in small steps as we upgrade individual software addons. You might occasionally see a maintenance message that will last a few minutes at most.

If we anticipate an update will take more than a few minutes, we'll put up a notice with estimated time.

    Thank you!

I believe it's "Charpentier, Bronze Foundry, Paris." So, yes, it's French. Charpentier may have been the retailer and/or maker of the bronze figure on top. I'd say 3rd quarter of the 19th century.

Iirc Charpentier has come up before so perhaps a MB search might be helpful. A number of makers with that name are listed working in Paris but they all seem rather early for this clock. I say that as it seems to have a Brocot suspension adjustment which would mean it can't be earlier than around 1850s. It looks like part of the pendulum rod is still attached to the suspension spring.

Definitely a French clock. The movement straps look a little odd. The way they've been bent - well, maybe ribbon-ed would be a better description. Looks like the movement is not original to the case; however, the dial certainly matches the case. I suppose the movement could have been replaced and the original dial kept. No matter, really. Movements on French clocks are frequently switched out.

I say all this because movements are frequently the best way to estimate a clock's age.
