Hi all, my first post, apologies if I make errors! I cannot find any information on this handsome chap. All I have to go on is:

A.I. The Equator French Made.

Movement has either J F or S F stamped upon it.

Anyone have an idea? Much appreciated

Welcome to the forum! Others will be along with more specifics, but as for the "S and F" on the platform escapement lever, they stand for Slow and Fast. For example, if you want to slow the clock down to keep better time, move the adjusters towards the S. The "A and R" are for advance and retard...same concept. Not sure about the script S and F on the back of the plate.

Thanks yes I'm good with the escapement s + f, it's the plate initials that have me, and info about 'The Equator' or the mysterious 'A.I.' - can only find one other carriage clock with similar details. He's been lovely to work on and restore, but sadly no clue about his history.

I can't tell you much about the clock, other than it has had a new escapement fitted in the last 20 years or so. The name on the dial is an odd one

The S and F on the back plate are the same thing as on the platform - Slow and Fast.

The letters are on the back plate because the platform originally fitted had a regulator which curved down over the back plate and so therefore the S and F were stamped there so that the regulator 'tail' could be moved in the correct direction. The new platform did not have such a regulator, so the S and F on the back plate became redundant.

The name 'Equator' was registered by a number of Swiss companies, though I have not idea whether any apply to this clock. A.1 is sometimes seen on the back of French movements, but doesn't seem to be on the movement here.

A.1 is sometimes used as a term of good quality and may perhaps be the inference here.

Others may know more.
