• Upcoming updates
Over the next couple of weeks we will be performing software updates on the forum. These will be completed in small steps as we upgrade individual software addons. You might occasionally see a maintenance message that will last a few minutes at most.

If we anticipate an update will take more than a few minutes, we'll put up a notice with estimated time.

    Thank you!

Horology - The Index is now officially back online, updated, expanded and integrated with the new NAWCC website.

You can visit this amazing new resource here:

http://www.nawcc-index.net

Many thanks to everyone who worked so hard to get this fantastic horological index up to date and back up to speed! In the years to come we predict that the index will continue to grow, and will once again become the first place one looks when one is searching for online horological information and the websites which contain it.

Excellent work, gentlemen! Well done.

Cheers!

Markus

Hello Markus,

I looked at Pocketwatch section and immediately noticed two errors for the minor watch companies:

U.S. Watch Co. Waltham, MA - correct dates are 1896-1904
Columbia Watch Co., Waltham, MA - correct dates are 1896-1900

If there are any questions regarding watch company dates I strongly suggest we check with Jon Hanson!

Regards,
Bryan
Bryan, Jon can access this resource directly from the main NAWCC web page and then post correct info using the tools provided there.

Mr. Hubby:

Jon Hanson and I wrote those pages that are in the Horological Archives Category. They came from "Web Horology". It also contains many hours of research using Google and other SEs to validate the info. But there is no need to try and embarrass anyone on this MB.

I am also going to build a Horological Dictionary, Horological Bibliography with Reviews and locater, a Company Logo system using Images of actual Logos, and any other system that will make Horology a better resource to the WORLD. This will all be tied to a LINKS system to make it easier to find information throughout the WORLD. I have already tested the Google Translator. It is working real good now that we have repaired all the CSS and xHTML errors.

I have dedicated the last 7 years to restructure "Horology - The Index" as an NAWCC Web Site. It is now 1000% better than ever before with very few DEAD Links.

Respectfully

Hi, guys!

I see no reason for anyone to get their hackles up over one message board user suggesting that another NAWCC member might be a good source of accurate info.

It is my understanding that ad hominem insult (personal attacks) will not be tolerated on this board, and rightly so. By anyone, against anyone. We all have our own opinions about horological subject matter, about many of which we are quite passionate. We can even discuss them and agree to disagree over them. Just so long as we don't succumb to the temptation to take a person jab at anyone.

If anyone wants to contact Mr. Hanson, they can certainly do so via http://www.nawcc-ch149.com, of which Sam is the webmaster. Jon is the President of a NAWCC Chapter and an NAWCC member of good standing. Nor has he ever seemed to me to be reticent to share his personal insights on matters horological, about which he is extremely knowledgable in a great many areas. The dates of watch companies being one.

The goal is cooperation for the benefit of horological causes, after all. At least it should be, to my way of thinking. Let's not be too quick to assume that personal vendettas and past frictions are being referenced and invoked when that might not actually be the case at all.

Horology: The Index is intended to be a free and open resource for everyone. That is my understanding of why Fortunat made it available to the NAWCC to upgrade and repair, which info I have straight from Fortunat's mouth.

When we use it, we should use it to build new bridges, not to erect new barriers.

Of course, that's just my opinion. Your mileage may vary.

Onward and upward!

Markus

Markus: I completely agree with the points you make.

Sam: I was unaware of Jon's prior contribution to development of info on the site, and am pleased to hear that he did that. However, I don't understand how you reached the conclusion that I was trying to embarrass anyone.

Bryan: My only point was that Jon has access to the site. Now that I know he was involved in development of watch history information, it certainly makes sense that he be asked to have a look for correction of any errors in those areas.

Finally I would like to personally congratulate Sam and Ted for their efforts to bring Horology-The Index back to life. I agree that this will be a major building block in NAWCC's efforts to fulfill our Strategic Plan goal to become "THE" horology resource of the world.

John: I guess I did not word it correctly. It was a generic statement. I am not trying to embarrass anyone.

I am also having problems getting to this MB or anywhere else for that matter on the Internet. I do not have a big enough PIPE and enough RAM on this computer! It has already taken THREE DAYS to Index Web Horology. I can't wait to do the NAWCC MB.:bang: That will take almost two weeks of constantly running it.

Hey SAM - aren't you still chair of the IAC - what's your JOB here??
I only ask, as apparently you are unaware that he can no longer post on here!

I took it that John Hubby was discussing Horology: The Index when he mentioned "this resource." Which Jon Hanson CAN access directly from the main NAWCC web page, and post correct info using the tools provided "there"-- again, at Horology: The Index.

It made sense to me.

Cheers,

Markus
