I recently acquired a Fludo doctor's watch, but not a chronograph type, just the red sweep hand and the seconds noted in an inner ring. Judging by the size and shape, I would assume the watch dates to the 1950's.

The movement is Westbury. A Generic Swiss brand:???:

I understand the Fludo watch company was in business from 1935 to 1970. It was quite small, family owned and did not survive the Japanese entry into the market and the digital revolution.

I would appreciate if members could provide me with more info about the brand and the Westbury movement.

Thanks, JeffL

Hi
I checked the usual references sources I have and could not find anything on Fludo or Westbury watches. But a little wandering around the web lead me to the conclusion that your watch is a " Flyback Chronostop " made by Ernest Borel of Neuchatel, Switzerland circa 1960. Some pictures would help to make sure. One web site has a photo of the movement with "Ernest Borel" stamped on the complication of the 17 Jewel Movement, Cal. 1168 ( ETA ).
See:

Also there is some nice info on "Doctor's Watches" on this site:

I will check a 2 vol. book on Swiss Watchmakers, that Chapter 75 has in it's library, and see if it has a direct reference to "Fuldo Westbury" watches during our next meeting in January. I will let you know the outcome.

Here is a Fludo that was my father's and which I gave my son for Christmas. It came to me broken when I was 11 or 12 and I tried to repair it with a sharpened needle screwdriver and bobby pin tweezer; screwed up the hairspring pretty well:rolleyes:. I finally got back to it 10 years ago and put it back in order.-Cort 80046.jpg

Hi JeffL,

Pritchard supplies not many informations about Fludo:

Boilat, Fluvius, Fludo Watch, Les Breuleux
Brand and model names: EFRO
History: The company was listed in 1951 and in 1966.

I only sold two Fludo watches, and both were doctors watches with ETA 1168 (simple chronograph):

Therefore I suspect that Fludo was compesed of Fluvius Doctos watch.
