A cousin of mine recently bought a property in central NM that included, among other things, an horologist's workshop (and an outhouse, but fewer people on this forum will be interested in that). He let me take a few pieces and what drew me in were movements that seemed mostly complete that maybe I can get going reliably and build a clock from. I've attached pictures of the prettier of the two, stamped Waterbury Clock Co, Patented SEPT13, 1898. I am looking for help identifying the movement, any obvious missing parts, and opinions on whether this is a worthwhile venture or its best use is as an anchor for a toy boat. Thank you.

Nice! Here's a webpage that shows your movement. It looks like yours is missing the gear on the front of the clock that would hold the hour hand and mesh with the little gear at the bottom. You'd also need a pendulum and pendulum rod.

Thank You! I'll have to look through the piles of parts - maybe that hour gear is in there somewhere. I have another similar, boxier, movement that, upon further instection, is missing the same hour gear

Based on the $300 repair fee from that link, is this a valuable movement or just expensive to fix and still not worth much?

I just thought - maybe the gear you need fell off and your friend has it in a box somewhere. And here's the suspension rod you'd need and any simple adjustable pendulum bob. You'd need to figure out how long to cut the rod and bend a hook on the end to hang the bob.

Or your friend has those as well!

Oops! you were typing while I was. Hopefully you'll find those parts.

They are expensive to take fully apart, clean and repair. As a project, they are fun and a sense of pride.
