There's no better way a watch is presented, then by a good set of hands.
The US Watch Co. came as shown, the gold hands on the Lawrance were
hand made by Carignan Watch Co. and the last set of Moons on the Elgin
came from Marty101 and Rob installed them. The Lawrance is an 1816
rack lever. Second pic distorted by bulls eye crystal.

You guys have a favorite set among your watches?

I agree a nice set of hands and clean dial really set of a watch. While I do not necessarily have a favorite set I am partial to fancy hands. I'll show some of mine.

    C. I remember the Keystone hands, but I don't recall seeing them any other watch. Same
    for the Seth T.

I vote you name the Rocky, "Groucho". Those hands are about as cool as it gets!!

Ran across these at the National.

Yes, they are still out there and as older guys pass on they come out.

Keystone Blue open hands and Gilt hands open and closed. They will enlarge, take a look.

    Love the Keystone State

Nice group of hands, Jim. A couple of years ago I had a Keystone 18S with these hands only blued, it slipped through my hands at a mart due my own negligence not watching what a gentleman was buying, he kind of buried it below a bunch of other watches.

Both the hands on the Keystone and the hands on the Seth Thomas were optional factory hands. I imagine someone has probably put a set on another brand watch.
Elgin had a variety of fancy hands, some designs limited to certain models like those on a 12 size C. H. Hulburd.

If you want to call Rocky "Groucho" be my guest.

Well here's some elgins again haha.

In my opinion there's nothing more beautiful on a watch than a bright white enamel dial and some incredible blued hands. That makes it for me. Here's my favorites.

Fleur de lis on a grade 77 and moon hands on a grade 4. These have always been my favorite. Simple and attractive.

I also have those crescent hands on a Hampden 108 model 1, those are neat as well... But they're black... And I don't have a good pic.

Like you I have sets of the hour and minute hands but am missing the Keystone second hand to complete the sets.

With your plentiful supply was wondering if you also picked up some second hands?

Well here's the crescent hands, they are actually blued they're just not bright. Model 2 108 Hampden sorry, not model 1, always get those backwards. Someone wrote on an old thread that they look like inside out umbrellas now every time I look at them I see that. Makes me laugh.

When I first started collecting watches the moon hands always stood
out to me. Now that I have quite a few watches
with moon hands they just seem normal. I guess it's the hands
that you don't have that you want because when I see a pair that is not
in my collection I want them.
I also like the umbrella and the crescent hands,
Fleur-De-Lis and Morning Glory plus a lot more.

Here is a pair of moon hands on a 1890 Elgin 0 size. They are not rare
on 0s watches but you don't see them that often. You need readers
to see them on the 0s they are so small(obviously not RR grade hands;))

    825BC67E-10E6-49F6-AFE3-32082D415026.jpeg

..............................….and last I never was a fan of the Louis XIV hands until I purchased
a watch with them and they have grown on me considerably. And I'm not
sure if it's the hands I like or the combination of the dial and hands.

Rob, I like the Louis the XIV hands in post #13, but on key winds if you set the time
one has to watch the next hour for the hands hanging up.

I'll do one more set on an American private label out of Buffalo NY 1853. This Pitkin
is kin to the original Pitkin brothers. English Gold Moons.

You guys need to give us another set, or I'll send the Australian in for the rescue.

Marty101 is a fantastic source for pocket watch hands.

When guy posted his Crescent hands(umbrella facing out) above it
reminded me of the fantastic mint hands I bought from Marty!
They are nicer than my dial(but the dial is original and I like that)

Here is the first eight of a baker's dozen of especially nice, relatively uncommon hands in my
    collection.

Delicate Louis XIV hands on an unsigned 18k, enamel and diamond Swiss ladies watch
    DSC00014.JPG

A bolder set of Louis XIV hands on an 18k Haas Neveux minute repeater/rattrapante
    z Haas repeater.jpg

Even fancier Louis XIV hands on an 18k Lange hunter
    IMG_4416.JPG

Open "club" hands on an 18k Gruen 50th Anniversary. I likely could have put together a 4-suit set of watches with diamond, heart, club, and spade hands.
    IMG_2594.JPG

Square "Breguet" hands (one of my favorite styles) on an all aluminum Illinois 525, one of three known examples
    IMG_2753.JPG

    I-forget-what-these-are-called hands on a 14k P. Ditisheim
    IMG_3063.JPG

An even fancier set of those hands on an ultra-thin diamond-rimmed platinum Cartier
    z cartuer plat dial.jpg

Fleur du lis hands on an 18k and enamel Elgin Frances Rubie

Here are the rest of my baker's dozen.

Elgin did have unique hands, such as these on a 14k Elgin Grade 450 "Corsican"

"Tree" hands on a 14k Elgin C.H. Hulburd

I had thought these "tree" hands were unique to Elgin C.H. Hulburds, until I found a set of them on a 14k Elgin Grade 451 in my collection, which I am having transferred to a needy C.H. Hulburd that I am having restored.

Skeleton radium hands on a 14k Gruen Carre
    Z Gold Carre 2.jpg

Extraordinarily fine closed diamond hands on an 18k F. Sagne hunter

Extremely unusual hands on a platinum C.H. Meylan

    Always hard to follow Ethan.

Here's my second oldest lever from 1821, 9J out of London.

Has always been one of my favorite combinations.

This is also not a set, but I really like the two tone hour hand on my Edwin Rollo. I haven't found a minute hand that fits yet. Ignore the reflection, it's from my bench light and it took some adjusting to highlight the hand.

Well if you like it, I think it is a silver tipped Howard key wind hour hand.

See if Marty101 can get you a silver tipped minute hand.

If you go with typical hands, here's my gilt Marion (Rollo) and then my nickel
    Marion (Lewis).

    I like your idea best!!

For sure Marty, if you find one let me know a price and I may just have to get it! If not, and you have a proper hour/min set I'd be interested in that. Thanks for the assist Keith.

    American Colonial hand set Gold.

This my most recent American discovery, a 1790 Dwerrihouse cylinder, cased in a US coin
1860, 16 size hunter case, with London gold hands. The original would have been a silver
    pair case.

Not exactly on topic: How about my least favorite hand sets. The pix are of a c. 1887 B. W. Raymond, 18s in a very chunky coin silver case. Paired with fleur-de-lis hands, it makes for an improbable combination. I've seen other watches of the same run on eBay, and they all have those flouncy, stylish hands, a case of What Were They Thinking? I still like it, though it would make a bulky and very weighty carry watch.

I've always liked the fleur-de-lis hands on my 18 size B.W. Raymond
    watches.

Maybe Elgin was targeting the New Orlean’s Saints fans when they marketed these “Boy Scout” oath style hands, but I agree with Rob, this style looks very good with the Roman numeral dial! They don’t look as good with the Arimayic numbers!

    P. S. Or maybe the music lovers out there because they remind me a little of musical notes?
