Cuckoo Faller Cuckoo Clock …maybe?

ID help please, Wise One’s.…….Like a good beginner learner, I fell upon this wreck which cost me £20, with the aim of ‘having a go’ at repair and not damaging anything of value . I am surprised though to find no markings on the movement and the chalet case has proven difficult to find anything similar on the internet.

Am I right in thinking Faller ? A seller in the UK has one for sale on FB Marketplace reckoning it’s 19th Cenfury with a resale of £300 / £400. I have no idea if that is an accurate ID or viable estimate but I suddenly feel very responsible for my poor one !

Could anyone confirm this ID and point me in the direction of a repair guide ? I’m not sure the weights are original (each weigh 475g/15oz.) with only one of them stamped ‘12’. No pendulum and I would love to know what would be the appropriate replacement(s).

Good points: It does tick, both hands move and the cuckoo come out on the hour and half hour.

Bad points: Just look at the grease and dust ! Note the chains were on incorrectly in this picture, split rings everywhere, the back is missing, one bellow repaired with polythene food bag whilst the other only has one piece of wood remaining and houses the ugliest cuckoo I have yet to see! Oh and a random key.

Josef Faller Söhne was started in Triberg in 1846 and by the later part of the 19th century was acknowledged as one of the larger cuckoo-clock manufacturers. Whether they ever made their own movements is not clear - quite possibly they didn't. Not a great deal is known on the history of the company. They had only a few of their own employees and depended largely on home workers, but this was quite usual in the production of cuckoo clocks at this time. The company seems to have gone out of business late 1950s/early 1960s.

The countwheel on your clock is distinctive and, hopefully, someone will recognize it.

Be patient. Some who have reviewed this thread at this point may be checking their files and others who have not yet seen this thread may be able to assist you.
