This Black forest Beha cuckoo clock is one of exceptional status. This is a very rare "double cuckoo" made Ca 1880, by Johann Baptist Beha. This is a simple 30hr wall cuckoo, weight driven, and in a rather simple, but beautiful architectural case.
What makes this clock special is its rare automation. This clock is one that was not mass produced, and it is thought that this and one other are prototypes of sorts, never taken into production.
It has 2 cuckoo birds, that on the strike, both emerge, and bob back and forth to each-other. Only one other example is known, and seen here featured in the 2008 book, "Beha Uhren" by Dr Wilhelm Schneider.
One of 2 known, the other belongs to the museum in England, part of the queens estate. The other example lacked its original pendulum, and until we found ours, its form was not known. Seen here, in old Bavarian script says "use the time". We assume this is a sort of variation of "seize the day" Only about 16" tall and in beautiful condition.

all these friendly admonitions like "Nütze den Tag" or "Seize the Day" derive from Horaz's Carpe diem.
    A wonderfull clock,congrats!
