One of the clocks I acquired this week was this one. I can’t find anything about David Gibson of Holywell. I’ll turn it over to the experts. Oh, and why is there a comma after the name “David”?

Because the name has been badly repainted. I had a clock where the person who tried to repaint it put dots (stops) between each word. Who knows why.........

Big chunky case is a dead giveaway it is mid 19th C, Holywell is in Wales.

Well, the movement was very dirty and needed two pivots worked and new bushings on each of them. They were both in the time train. All is well now. Runs and strikes well. About a 12 inch pendulum swing. Gut was in bad shape. Changed to cable for now. Should be a good clock for a long time.

more where you are than here!
Not much here, either.

I've seen clocks like this struggle to get an opening bid at auctions.

Splits in base don't help much. Does the dial fit the opening in the door correctly? Seems to sit low with a gap along the upper edge of the dial, too low @ the bottom.

Yes, RM, it is a little low. I am working on a new/old piece of wood shim to correct that.

Will, on clocks like this I charge my usual repair fees, plus any work to the case, plus what I feel it is worth, plus a one year guarantee. Keep in mind the market is soft for clocks, unless you watch auctions. Without seeing the clock, or knowing your area, I would at least start at $649.
