I have an English tall case (grandfather's) clock. Below are some photos of the case, dial and movement. I am trying to determine a particular maker and approximate age. What clues lead us to this information?

Hi,
I am not a specialist but considering the dial and the fronton, it is a Mahogany around 1815.
I hope I am not mistaken!

The heavier case style with short door indicates it is a late one, probably 1840 or so. With no name on the dial it is pretty much impossible to identify a maker.

Does the falseplate have a name on it? As we know a lot about the manufacturers of those (who may also have supplied the dial) we can sometimes pin the dates down a bit more closely.

I'd think a little later at around 1830's or 40's. The short trunk on the case and the lack of Arabic numerals on the dial.

This link is handy for dating painted dials.

Wow, older than I thought. I assumed English since it came from an antique shop in England in 1972. The clock is large/bulky. The wood is mainly veneer. The weights are large black irons ones.

What is the falseplate?

That is what I thought. On the front of the falseplate there is nothing, but looking closely at the back I see "Fletcher" machine sketched on the top portion.
