I got four English fusee clocks in my recent purchase. Here is one with the retailer label on the back. Anybody know anything else about it? This is my first fusee to own. I know very little. Info appreciated. Thanks.

Will,

Camerer Cuss and Co. were known as Camerer & Kuss until around the time of WWI. They changed the spelling of Kuss to Cuss. [Courtesy JTD] They were retailers.

So, presumably, your clock was made around WWI or a bit later.

Regards.

Camerer Cuss afaik were retailers, distributors and importers of clocks, they are as already mentioned well known and it is quite common to see clocks with their name on the dial or label. I have seen fusee dial clocks with their name on with W&H and others movements.

You guys are amazing! Thank you for the information. I will be posting several more clocks as I get to it. I have run out of room in my shop. Got to quit this insaneness, LOL.

Nothing of value to add here because you all know so much more about clocks than I do. But I can say that is one COOL clock. Notwithstanding all the breathless hyperbole on the label, the movement appears to be well-built, sound and in remarkably good condition. The bend in the pendulum leader is somewhat concerning; hope that's just because some ham-fisted galoot was into it at some point. What are the engraved marks in the lower left corner of the back plate?

Hello Will. Clocks don’t come any simpler than these…solid, good timekeepers and timeless style (no pun intended).

“English Dial Clocks” by Rose would be a useful resource if you have acquired several. He has illustrations of many features from actual clocks of known date e.g. surround shapes, bezel sections, plate shapes, pillar forms, hand types etc.

new2clocks has pointed to WW1 or later and the screwed pillars suggest 20th. century. I think the hands are replacements…more likely to be spade hands.

The chain style fusee is a bonus.
