Here are pics of the front and rear plates of a rather nice vintage Elliott 3 train l-case. It's fairly standard mechanically except for a couple of features I don't recognise. Looking at the rear plate, the initial drive in the chime train from G-wheel to locking plate arbor takes place outside the plates. The 2nd wheel (bottom left) has an unused crown wheel mounted on the end of the arbor, Does anyone know what this may once have driven? In addition, on the r-h side of the plate under the strike hammers, there are four holes. Two small plain holes and two larger threaded ones about 1/8"dia. Would these be related to the unused / disconnected crown wheel in any way? 74750.jpg 74751.jpg

Maybe an alternative version with a horizontal chime barrel driven by the unused contrate wheel and its other pivot on a bracket where the unused holes are?

Possibly using tubes or bells instead of rods?
