I was going through some of my stuff looking for info on Rockford RR watches and got sidetracked on Elgin. So here goes. This thread is sort of a "Identifying Elgin RR Watches by Period (mostly) Elgin Ads). I will try to post them in chronological order.
1870-71. I found this one many years ago (25?) in an old RR guide book in the dusty stacks of a University library. I doubt if the guide book had been opened in years before I cracked the cover.
This isn't an ad but is rather a summary of the Elgin grades used on the Burlington Route in 1889. It's part of the laborious research I did for a Bulletin article I wrote many years ago.
More to follow. It's Friday and happy hour is calling.
