• Upcoming updates
Over the next couple of weeks we will be performing software updates on the forum. These will be completed in small steps as we upgrade individual software addons. You might occasionally see a maintenance message that will last a few minutes at most.

If we anticipate an update will take more than a few minutes, we'll put up a notice with estimated time.

P/w on hand Elgin grade 345 serial# 23273871 . with a combination roller table.
The Elgin cat. balance staff # is 1905 only.
The staffs advertised on ebay are 1905 long or short hub.
The question is, are the long hub made for the combination roller and the short for single roller??
Thanks

HELP!!!!!
I was researching in the Elgin catalog. The balance staffs called for in the catalog are #1905. I have a grade 345 & 303 not sure what staff is needed confused from 2802 the 1905 long/short hub staff. both pocket watches have the combination roller table.
PS.the roller table does not fit on the 2802 staff, the roller table is to small.
Thanks again

Can't help you on which hub. It's one of those things that you need to measure on the old staff to determine. The two hub lengths are .55 and .35. Regarding the #2802, this is the appropriate staff for these grades with serial numbers above 15,799,501.

Measuring the old staff ,the over all length is apx. 4.02mm . the over all length of the 2802 is 5.02mm diffidently not the one I need.
Which part of the balance staff is the hub?
Thanks Dave

The lengths of the 1905 and 2802 are the same: 4.16mm. The ONLY difference between the 1905 and the 2802 is the hub length. For the 2802, it is .47mm.

The hub is the widest part of the staff. What you are looking for here is the height of that part, measured along the axis of the staff.

Again, the serial number of your watch will determine whether you need the 1905 or the 2802. If it is below 15,799,501, then you need to measure the hub length to determine which 1905 you need.
