Hello,
Jo and Owen Burt published a Supplement on Welch & Spring Co. and devoted a large section to Patti clocks.
B.B. Lewis held 3-4 or movement patents Solomon Spring had 2 case patents. These clocks were very expensive for the time period $ 12 to $ 15 compared to $ 3 to $ 5 for traditional 8 day wood case shelf clocks.
Previous posters did not explain how name for the clocks - they were named after famous 19th century female opera stars (mega stars).
The opera star was Adelina Patti after whom they named their clock!
She had a wonderful voice, but she shocked the staid Victorian world with her off stage behavior.
There were 3 stages of Patti clocks:
Pre-1884:
Patti 1, Gerster, Cary
1884:
Nilsson, Scalachi, Eveline, Victoria, and a brass case version
1889:
Patti 2, Judic, Khedive, Ernani, Norma, Paola, Iron Fronts, and other models.
Some brief details about Patti clocks.
