I got this clock today and I can't find too much information about it like date/name. The label on the back is in bad shape but I think it reads "Sonata". The movement is "pinned" as well and mounted to the back cover of the case. I've never seen one like this.

Here are a couple of pictures, thanks for your help.

It is indeed the Sonata, shown in Tran Duy Ly's Ingraham book for the year 1895. According to info. in that book, it was made between 1889 and 1896; so, not a long life, and this allows you to date it fairly closely. Ingraham did make a few back-mounted black mantels with the gong at the bottom of the case. Every now and then one shows up on eBay.

I, too, like the black dials. This particular clock came in white, black, gilt, or porcelain dial, with the porcelain costing an additional $1.30. I can't off-hand recall whether other manufacturers offered black dials, but Ingraham often did.

Steven, the only other black dial clocks I can think of were French.

I was actually thinking of black mantel dials, but the comments by others are well-taken. I also know that New Haven offered double dial calendar clocks with black dials, an OG calendar, a column calendar, and a Fashion Calendar lebeled National Calendar Clock Company. This per Tran.
