The lighter areas are where the finish has been rubbed off. You won't be able to un-stain where the finish is still there. It would need to be chemically stripped and refinished. Having said that though refinishing isn't really a DIY project anymore. The government has banned to the public removers containing methylene chloride which makes the new removers pretty ineffective without it. It can be done but you should expect to have to strip it multiple times to get the finish off. A professional refinisher can strip the case down to pretty close to new wood taking most of the stain out. Then it could be finished in the color you desire.Scored on this clock today. I want to keep the original color and stain. Any ideas on how to match the worn light colored areas to the darker areas?
