Hello,

I'm in search of the next owner for this clock. I'm not sure of it's value. Should this go to a high end auction? Is this a garage sale clock? LOL. I am not informed but working towards selling the clock for a family member. I did have the clock serviced and everything is in great condition. Clock is currently located in Portland, OR.

Walter H. Durfee Pattern 9
J.J. Elliot & Co movement with Westminster chime on four flat-wire gongs & the Whittington chime on a nest of eight bells

The name plate lists A.R. Vanderbilt, Amsterdam NY. My internet search led to this likely person.

Any help or guidance you can offer is appreciated.

Thank you,

Joe

Durfee clocks are top shelf in all ways. Value is in the eye of the beholder, but that should be significant. An auction is likely to be most productive. I don't particularly like the case, but that is irrelevant.

Have you found Durfee stamped into the edge on one of the plates? Otherwise, one branded Tiffany's might be worth more, maybe.

That's a high end case and movement so definitely not a garage sale, best to have it valued.

Thank you for the information! I have submitted photos of the clock to the sotheby's website for valuation. Are there other auction houses or auction events that I should consider?

gvasale I am not at the the same location right now to look for the stamps. I will do so when I return home.

There are many other auction houses, depending on where you live. Try several, local ones too, not just Sotheby's. A local auctioneer will be more likely to know the value of your clock in neighborhood in which you live.

Ok. I sent inquires to two local auction houses that appear to be active in the antique and collectible space. Thank you for the assistance! I now have reached out to 3 different companies to review the clock and explore offering it at auction. I might try to contact an auction house in Seattle as well.
