Depth of oil sink ?

Do you cut an OIL SINK just enough below the end of the pivot
so there could not be any "tunneling" if there is any bushing wear in the future ?

What I see is that most old American movements ONLY have oil sinks in the front plates not in the rear ?
ON oil sink in the rear plates.
Why is that ?

They don't actually hold any oil.
On American clocks they are strictly ornamental.

On French, or other thick plated clocks, they are there to decrease the plate thickness. This will reduce friction and alleviate other problems associated with thick plates.
