• Upcoming updates
Over the next couple of weeks we will be performing software updates on the forum. These will be completed in small steps as we upgrade individual software addons. You might occasionally see a maintenance message that will last a few minutes at most.

If we anticipate an update will take more than a few minutes, we'll put up a notice with estimated time.

    Thank you!

Is there a source of "bulls eye" type pendulums for early black forest cuckoo clocks just the bob would do fine that way the hanger could be fabricated to fit the situation.

If you have acess to a lathe the "bulls eye" pendulum is not to difficult to fabricate-The pend rod I use welding (gas) rod thread the end use a large hand nut for rating and hammer(on an anvil, vise or similar surface) the end for a hook. A scrap of brass for the cross piece- couple of brass wires-for the guides and bend the staples for the brass wire guides and you are all set. I try to find a piece of old walnut for the 'bulls eye" and with a little color -it looks original. Any way thats one way of doing it tom

If you get real hard up for one, like me, I used a corner finish block for a doorway from Lowes. All they are is a 3.5" x 3.5" pine block with a bullseye lathed out in the middle.
I scroll sawed the center out, sanded the back down to roughly 3/8" and attached the hardware.
Looks and works good till I can run across a original one:p Clock Pics 017 (Small).jpg

You can just see in the upper left corner, one of those blocks used. Thats where the idea came from...

I came accross a spare "draught" from a board game and it gave me the idea that if you get a "box wood" cream coloured one and cut it down the middle, it might do.

today I was looking at the site of

Meadows and Passmore

and they do a series of black forest and cuckoo bobs.

Isn't the bottom part of the rod wood, Tom? Making a pendulum like this can be easily done using scrapbox materials - no big deal.

welding rods also make very good longcase ones, not to mention the older quality wire coat hangers you used to get from the dry cleaners.

the present day, thinner ones, are ok for wags on the wall. they are too thin for the thread on the new susp blocks for LCs.

I once made a grid iron pendulum using welding rods.
