What is the easiest way to get these clips off?

I have Knipex tools. I also have this tool. The tips aren't the best for this. The best tool for this is the ace hardware tool. I have borh. The Knipex bent after 6 months. All the rest of my Knipex tools are completely awesome.

Those don't fit into any grooves, like an e-clip does, so I just slide them up over the arbor. They go back on pretty easily the same way. I've also been known to break the danged things off. I keep a supply of them, just in case :D
Here's a link.

A simple tool, made from a large screwdriver blade, can be used to remove these clips. It has to have just the right thickness and angles, plus a lot of 'tooth' left on the working faces, at right angles to the blade's length. Got a photo here somewhere. Willie X

I use "KNIPEX Tools - Circlip Pliers, External, 90 Degree Angled, Forged Tip, 1/8"-25/64" Shaft Dia. (4621A01), 5.00 , Black". If you copy and paste, it should bring up an Amazon listing.

Hope that helps!

Yeah, I don't have a lot of patience sometimes, and it's faster to just replace them :)

Thanks for the tip Willy! Bought a screwdriver at Home Depot for $1.25, ground the front of the blade as shown in your photo. Worked Great!

I've made a little mod in that tool, not shown in the photo. Everything is about the same but the top and bottom surfaces now have tiny little (~45°) ramps at the tip. This makes the little 'crab clip' pop open better at the start. Willie X
