A friend bought through a flea market a nice hunter style cuckoo with dancers music box etc, he dropped off to me as wouldn't work( surprise surprise), i took back cover off and someone had sprayed what looked like fluid film all over everything, i disassembled all, and actually this is my first with music box.

The music box was seized, so soaked overnight, and its back working, i disassembled movement soaked and then cleaned, very very rusted underneath the oil etc

No issues with plates and al gears etc are tight and went together fine, the crutch had been bent by someone previously, so i left in same position as found

I placed back together and it will not work with pendulum attcahed, i tried 100 posistions etc with no luck, it will run with pendulum off, and looking for help with what you would do next??

Thx for any assistnce and hope you and yours are haveing a good long weekend

I'm guessing that it is not in beat. The tick and tock needs to be even. You do that by slightly bending the crutch toward the side with the longest duration of the tick or tock. It will probably take a few tries. Worse case, the movement is available and can be replaced.

These wear out at the front escape wheel pivot, and the front 2nd wheel pinion (T2F and T3F). Both of these pivot holes are covered by the leavers on the front of the clock. The story can be told by wiggling/snapping the chain wheel back and forth with a little force while looking downward into the movement. Wear will be evident. It's doesn't take very much to make the clock stop. I re-bush them sometimes, but if the wear is not clearly localized to one or two places, I replace them.

Good luck, Willie X

Thx, i frigged around with beat setting for a long time, but i have told him that i am done with it, he can either sell for parts, which i would quickly buy and fix myself lol

If it has rust, it needs to be removed quickly, if it is made
to run. Lubrication will not compensate for rust.

Thx Tinker, I explained before I worked on it that it would more than likely need replacement, I ordered a new movement this am as the clock is in otherwise great shape for year

Another question is what time period did they place glass eyes in the rabbit in the Hunter Style clock??

A new movement is in order for a seriously rusted movement
so your on track.
Be prepared to fiddle with getting the music box working
right. There is not an easy way to adjust the linkage and
tiny amounts of change make a difference.
You may have to improvise a little as most of the new movements
don't come with the music box linkage.

Glass eyes were used for to long to be a good indicator for date.

Many Regula movements are dated, or have a date code. Or, just post a full frame picture of your clock, one from the front and one from the back, with the back off. It can be dated within a few years.

Tinker

he now wants music box, to basically have a new clock, i am looking at music box and the one below is all i see available, the old music box has a #8 stamped on front and on back it has 1EC 28P, i assume the 28P means pitch, i will paste below what the new one says for a description, i called supplier and they said I can cut shaft if need be to fit, which will need to be done. I also am easily able to use old linkage as its on the shaft near pendulum and removable

22 Note Cuckoo Music Box is a cuckoo music box that plays 2 tunes (Happy Wanderer & "Holzhacker"), has a top mount and a shaft length of 50 mm.

Any help would be appreciated

I believe that's the only new music box available now. If he wants a new one, he'll have to get used to it :)
