I've had this for a while and always wondered what the story is behind the dial It doesn't say Croton at all, it simply has a fancy script capital R then the Aqua Medico. It has a marked movement and back, but the dial is strange. Anyone have a theory or have seen one like this before?

Yes, it is definitely a Croton Aquamedico. I have a few other examples, but this one is odd. I am trying to figure out what the R stands for.

This very same R is registered to Bassett Jewelry Co of Providence, Rhode Island (mikrolisk).

Perhaps the Bassett Co. had some watches made especially for them to sell?

I had looked at Mikrolisk, but I don't think they are the same R. Maybe the design changed over time, but the R doesn't look the same to me. bildmarke_bassettjewelry.jpg upload_2020-9-11_9-27-47.png

Seeing the enlarged photo of your mark, I agree it is not exactly identical. However, it seems similar enough for the Bassett company to be a good contender.

It would be quite odd if two companies adopted marks which are so very alike; you don't say on your avatar where you are but if the watch is in America, it had to get there somehow. Bassett is is an American company and it seems a possibility that they might have imported it from Switzerland with their logo on the dial.

But of course I can't prove it. Others may know more.
