• Upcoming updates
Over the next couple of weeks we will be performing software updates on the forum. These will be completed in small steps as we upgrade individual software addons. You might occasionally see a maintenance message that will last a few minutes at most.

If we anticipate an update will take more than a few minutes, we'll put up a notice with estimated time.

    Thank you!

$ Could someone give a value for this watch?

The watch works.

From a different section of this website, it was evaluated as the following:

It's a Swiss watch, made somewhat in the English style, retailed by Tomas Russell, a one-time watchmaker but later just a retailer. The case is gold-filled and made by Dennison, a Birmingham casemaker. So Russell will have imported the movement from Switzerland and had it cased by Dennison. 303526.jpg 303525.jpg 303524.jpg 303523.jpg 303522.jpg 303521.jpg 303520.jpg 303519.jpg 303518.jpg 303517.jpg

As the person who identified this as a Dennison case, now that I have looked more closely at the relevant images ... I want to change my mind. The brand name "Star" was used by Dennison, but now I see that this case does not include the other wording that Dennison would have used. The brand name "Star" was also used by several different Swiss watchmakers and perhaps casemakers.

Given that, I can't be sure that the case is gold-filled, but in fact that has negligible effect on the value. The Thomas Russell name, even if only as a retailer, carries a small amount of cachet.

This is an unexceptional Swiss watch, 7 jewels with an "English lever" and safety pinion inscribed on the movement. It appears to be in good condition.

Assuming that it runs well, I would put a retail value of £60 on it.

Hi Velle,

The term "English Lever" on the top plate is questionable, since it is clearly a club-tooth escape wheel rather than the ratchet-tooth type usually described as an English lever.

Regards,

Graham
